Polaroid or Progressive Lights? How Permanent Lights Are Advancing

Remember Polaroid? Hard to believe that such a successful company founded in 1937 claimed bankruptcy after 67 years. As a business owner, I find this story fascinating. What happened? In short, the company lacked passion to advance with the times and ignored the move to digital photography. Whether it’s cameras, phones, televisions, or permanent lights – companies must welcome innovation and better yet - encourage it!

Neglecting to do so, results in customers who eventually stop using the outdated version and move on to other products. Unlike my polaroid camera that is in a box in my garage, permanent lights are fixed. For this reason, consumer education is so important when it comes to choosing permanent lights.

Consumers should no longer be impressed with lights that simply change and offer different colours and effects. This is old-school. Now, artificial intelligence is available so individual lights can “talk” to each other. This algorithmic technology means the following advances in permanent lights are happening NOW.

Algorithmic Lights

Syncing Lights

Lights that can talk to each other, can dance together. Meaning, algorithmic lights when installed properly can sync and move in coordination with each other across the property on different levels. This is the difference between watching 6 -year-old children in tap shoes and watching the precision dance company, The Rockettes. I have seen both, the Rockettes are better!

Blending

Lights should be beautiful when they transition colours. In the past, lights changed colours by having to turn off for a split second before appearing as a different colour. This gives a fairground/circus feel which can be fun sometimes but what if pretty is what you are after? Algorithmic lights transition colours and make the blending of colours captivating.

Smart

Gone are the days when permanent lights are a stand-alone product. Now, permanent lights can sync to your other home automation systems. Lights can turn on when homeowners are two minutes from pulling into their driveway. This is only one example of the possibilities of smart home integration. Stay tuned for another blog where we share more examples.

Music

Algorithmic lights can also sync to music or sounds. Yes, Christmas music or spooky sounds at Halloween, or a band can sync their equipment, so lights are no longer solo – this technology allows for a duet of both lights and sounds.

Many consumers are understandably so thrilled with never hanging lights again and having the option to change their lights that they are unaware that there is a technology that has far surpassed this.  iStar Lights values moving with the times so customers are proud of their investment.

Writing this article reminded me that our daughter along with a number of her friends wrote on their Christmas lists that they wanted an instant camera about 10 years ago. The other mothers and I reluctantly made the purchase. Along with the pricey film, Guinevere found the instant camera under the Christmas tree and used it over the holidays. When we moved last year, I found it in the back of her closet - it was the first time I had seen it in 6 years. Funny how some things don’t change.
